There are two perspectives of play in René Rother’sShot Aground. In the first, the camera hangs high in the sky, looking down on the player as they navigate the planet - or perhaps moon, it is never explicitly stated - on which their ship has crash landed. From here the game feels Diablo-esque, inasmuch as it gives a sense of the immediate dangers surrounding the player but also denies context; the player sees themself and a small area around them but nothing more.
A fraction of the stupendous things and people from Otakon 2013. There were a lot of great people and costumes, so be sure to check the #otakon 2013 tag for better/more pics. Super shout out to Lunarinferno for her awesome Sailor Moon cosplay, which resulted in one of my favorite photo ops of all time.
“Players begin by playing as Cupid, who has been asked by God to protect a particular family from dangers. Players spend their time in the game meddling in the lives of members of the family. The family members move about on their own, but players can shoot them with emotion arrows which change their actions, examples being “Work Hard Arrow” and “Calm Down Arrow.” The goal of the game is to keep the family going over multiple generations, perhaps spanning a thousand years (hence the name).”

“Look at Shinji. Why does he continue to fight as an Eva pilot? The story keeps changing. He said it’s because everyone tells him to. Because only he can do it. Because it has to be done to save humanity. Selfless and lofty sentiments for sure, and he believed those reasons to be genuine. Wrong; he wanted his father to approve of him. To say he was a good boy. How selfish of him, really, to be a human being.” –Megumi Hayashibara
People are quick to oversimplify Shinji as a weak, irritating character.
But here’s the dirty little secret: Everyone is Shinji. Everyone is human. Overcoming your inherent weaknesses is something you must do to get what you want in life.
